A Little About Me

Dear visitor,

I appreciate you spending your time here!

I started sewing in my late 20s with no formal training or practice. Before this, I never used to think of myself as a creative person. Really I just needed some time to appreciate that so many endeavours can be creative. As someone who also enjoys baking and gardening, I assumed it was the methodical, process-oriented nature of these hobbies that drew me in, but I needed time to appreciate the artistry involved.

My first sewing projects were quilts but I have long-term aspirations to sew garments and understand their construction. At its core, www.littlewoollylamb.com is dedicated to documenting my projects and my learning journey. I have spent so much time consulting blogs and videos, so if the things that I put in on this website are helpful to anyone else, that makes me so happy. Beyond a place to document my progress, this website is a way for me to practice communicating in text and images. Put in a more romantic way, I love stories and storytelling and think almost anything can be a compelling story if framed correctly. Will I be able to make beginner quilt and garment making engaging and relatable? We shall see!

So what can you expect to see here?

Our hyper visual culture offers so much inspiration when it comes to clothes and styling. For me, a lot of my inspiration and personal connections to fashion are through movies. I love to think about how the styling affects the storytelling and the external influences of the fashion and film industries that make their way on screen. I expect that the majority of projects I pursue here will be inspired by screen culture (and maybe celebrity culture too). The blog will be the place I talk more about these inspirations and reflect on their personal and broader significance. The blog is also a place to talk about the specific steps or challenges I encounter when making projects.

As I take on these creative pursuits, I am committed to:

  • learning about histories of clothes, sourcing information from a variety of sources and diverse perspectives

  • sustainable sewing practices and suppliers, supporting small and local business whenever possible

  • citing my sources of inspiration, ensuring that my creative outputs are appropriate and respectful of the original source.

If you are inclined to follow me to see what I’m making, well that’s just amazing and I am so grateful!

  • If you use an RSS feed, you can get weekly blog updates here.

  • You can follow me on Instagram. I’m posting multiple times a week.

  • And subscribe to my YouTube Channel. My videos are published alongside my projects as soon as they are finished and ready to be shared.

Thanks for taking the time to read a bit more about me. I hope to see you again soon.
